about bellwether oncology alliance

Who's On First?
Bellwether Oncology Alliance is a Group Purchasing Organization (GPO). It functions in a similar fashion to the GPO to which you currently belong. Bellwether is a subsidiary of Metro Medical Supply, which is an established drug distributor. More about these as we continue.

Why Switch GPOs?
Bellwether is designed to specifically help the beleaguered private practice oncology market. It does so by providing chemotherapy drugs at a consistently low price, coupled with excellent customer service.

We pledge that interactions between Bellwether and its physician members will be completely “transparent”. In other words, our business activities will be openly explained to members, so that they can be assured of where our revenue is derived and where their costs are going.

What About Value-Added Services?
Bellwether offers a variety of value-added services to assist its members. However, unlike some other GPOs, we do not enter into the same blanket fee arrangements. Instead, we have told vendors to apply all fees, commissions, etc. that would ordinarily go to Bellwether – back into additional discounts for our members.

How We Do This?
Our parent company – Metro Medical Supply – is a solidly entrenched drug distributor with over 25 years of experience serving private practices and the medical industry.

From its inception, the company has been privately owned by two individuals. They do not wish to sell the organization, only to grow the business. Their vision continues to be long-term and strategic, not motivated by quick, short-term gains. Additionally, as a private company, they do not have to be concerned with the “margin” pressures inherent in the publicly traded corporations that currently dominate the oncology industry.

All of this allows Bellwether to offer unparalleled pricing in an environment that encourages ethical business practices, a long-term outlook, and a completely transparent method of conducting business.

How Does the GPO Work?
Bellwether essentially operates in a similar way as the GPO to which you are already accustomed. It contracts with pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturers to secure the best contracts on behalf of its members. Due to the robust infrastructure provided by our parent company – Metro Medical Supply – they have been monitoring and managing physician office contracts across the nation for decades.

How Does Distribution of Product Work?
Metro Medical Supply, our exclusive distributor, is licensed in all 50 states. It has state-of-the-art warehouse facilities throughout the country to better service its customers. They already serve over 3,500 medical clients, delivering the same level of customer service to which the oncology community is familiar. Their drug pedigree and chain of custody program assures you that you will receive drugs supplied directly from the manufacturers through appropriate supply chains. Metro Medical's two locations are VAWD accredited.

How Do I Order?
Any way you wish. Metro Medical Supply accepts orders by telephone, email, fax, or via the internet. All orders are shipped promptly to meet your needs.

What Payment Methods Are Available?
Metro Medical will work out a payment plan that is convenient and customized for your practice, ranging from direct debit to extended payment terms. Please call our offices for further details.
